How NOT to announce your Singles Ministry :)

I was browsing through some of the other Calvary web sites out there and I came across a section where one of them was displaying information about their Singles Ministry. It has always been a sensitive issue in our church so I was curious to see how another church presented it. Check it out and see if anything in there just doesn't seem right.

Acts 2 tells us that the first Christians devoted their lives to four main things...spending time together in God’s Word, spending time together with other believers in fellowship, spending time together remembering Jesus and spending time together in worshipful prayer.

Things were refreshingly simple...get together often with other followers of Jesus in someone’s home, and come with hearts to remember, hear from and talk to God! And, this is our desire! Strip all of the other stuff off, and be about relationship!

So, that is what a bunch of us singles do every Friday night...we devote ourselves to loving relationship with God and with each other! And, that’s why we meet in various homes...it’s comfortable, it’s relaxed, it’s real and it’s family!

So, come and join us as we “dig into” the gospels in an interactive study format, worship God with intimacy and passion, seek to build each other up in loving fellowship and seek to follow Jesus in our day to day lives!

I don't know... maybe it's just me and my warped sense of humor. :)

*The word says "Give drink to those who are thirsty, and feed the hungry.” How about dinner?
*You don't have an accountability partner? Me neither.
*Is it a sin that you stole my heart?
*I didn't believe in predestination till I met you.
*Did I tell you that my great-uncle was a personal friend of Billy Graham?
*What do you think Paul meant when he said, 'Greet everyone with a holy kiss'?
*Nice bible...Do you need help carrying it? It looks heavy.
*What are your plans for tonight? Feel like a bible study?
*Do you believe in Divine appointment?
*(For the ladies) Excuse me, I believe one of your ribs belongs to me.
*My friend told me to come and meet you, he said that you are a really nice person. I think you know him. Jesus, yeah, that's his name.
*You want to come over and watch the 10 commandments tonight?
*Hi. Your name must be Grace because you are AMAZING!

Easter Recap Video

I'm about 90% done but here is a draft version. There still time to change it if anyone has suggestions. :)

Lead THEM not into Temptation

If you are open about your faith then someone is bound to see you as a "spiritual authority figure." Hopefully we aren't giving people a license to sin with what they see us saying or doing.

May we be able to say as Paul said in Philippians 3:17. "Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern."

What if YOU had to do an invocation prayer on ESPN

For whatever reason God has opened doors for our church to be involved with doing the invocation at Homestead Motor Speedway events. I shared a video previously where Pastor Pedro Garcia did the invocation for NASCAR. Here is Pastor Scott Claunch doing an invocation for an Indy race. I've heard a lot people do invocation prayers for these events. I can't stand when pastors cop out and don't even mention the name of Jesus. This was not one of those invocations.

To the American Idol Fans I became as...

I wonder if this is what Paul meant when he said, "I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some." 1 Cor 9:22

Check out how River City Church in Jacksonville, FL announced an upcoming series.

I have to say, these things take time and effort to produce. When it's done right I really think that people pay attention. No matter how cheesy it might be.

The Perfect Storm

Easter is Over.

The Superbowl of Christianity has to be Easter Sunday. It is the easiest time to invite friends and family members and the most attended and most advertised service for the church at large. My church (Calvary Chapel of Kendall) did 1 service outdoors and we had close to 2000 people attend and many came to know or rededicate their lives to Jesus. It's easy to look at the numbers and the large scale of the event and think of it as just a "big event" for our church. However, as I was going through images and footage of our event, I saw the emotion on people's faces. To many that were there, it wasn't a big church event. It was a personal and touching experience with God.

Let us not forget why we go through all the hard work it takes to have these "big events".

Bottom line is God still touches people. The fact that he uses us to do it is still a mystery to me.

I'll post a recap of the service soon. You'll see it here first.

Is your myspace page christian enough?

I recently checked out myPraize. It's like a Christian version of myspace. What I find interesting is that right on their homepage it lists the rules of photo submission.

Check it out and see if your myspace pictures would make it on to this Christian version of the extremely popular and controversial social online networking (that was a mouthful).

OFFICIAL PHOTO SUBMISSION RULES

1 – NO bathing suite pictures. I don’t care if your wearing a bathing suite which covers you from your toes to your neck, we do not allow swim suite pictures.

2 – NO “ultra-short” shorts or skirts.

3 – NO low-cut shirts. Basically, if our administrators can see more then a couple inches from your neck, your picture will be rejected, we DO NOT want pictures were parts meant to be hidden are not so hidden… get my drift?

4 – NO shirt-less pictures. This is mostly for the guys, although you’d be surprised if you knew some of the taste-less pictures we’ve had submitted.

*NOTE* - Men, your shirtless “look at my body” pictures are just as sinful as the pictures you complain about in the forums that girls post on other sites. Girls are NOT exempt from lust, please be modest.

5 – If your picture contains text PLEASE be tasteful and KNOW what the image says. Don’t upload images that “look cool” but have offensive language.

6 – Lastly, NO MORE PICTURES OF TINKERBELL! I know Disney has made everyone think she’s some cute little drawing, but when she’s consistently drawn in a cut skirt which is one step shy of a Victoria Secret outfit, it’s just way too far!

Please use some tasteful discretion. As corny as it sounds; if Jesus was right next to you while your uploading the picture, would you be uploading it still?

This pretty much would rule out 85% of my friends on myspace. And if you count tinker bell pics we're looking at about 97%. How about you guys? How do you measure up?

Money is the root of all tithing

Money can be a sore subject in the church today.

I love the fact our church has a box in the back and we don't make a big deal about it. Yet when we come across it in the bible we don't shy away from the subject.

"Where God guides, God provides" -Chuck Smith

Other title ideas for this post included but were not limited to...

* Money makes the church go round
* Show me the tithing!
* The best money can BYE
* A run for your money
