Another Wednesday night service has come and gone. Only 3 people got saved tonight. Slow night.
You know, as much as I am amazed at the fact that God uses our church the way he does, I am more amazed at how easily I get accustomed to seeing people get saved and thinking it is normal. I see people get saved at every service. 5 services a week! I guess when it happens so consistently you can't help but grow cold to seeing people get saved. But it's not so in God's eyes.
Luke 15:8 "...suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
Do you remember when you got saved? Was it at a church?
I think the angels cringed when I got saved. Maybe one might have let out a "oh boy" under his breathe. ;)

The Devil, The Flesh, The World, and Now... Technology
Jer 33:3 'Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.'

Isn't technology wonderful! The computer you are reading this from has more computing power than all the computers used to send man to the moon decades ago. You can do video chats with people around the world for free. Best of all renewing your driver's license no longer involves getting in your car! Technology can save us so much time and hard work. However, it can also enslave us. There is always some new Gizmo to purchase. There is always some updated software to have to learn. We may be "connected" 24/7 with our Cell Phones, and Email, and RSS Feeds but, are we CONNECTING with God?
God help us in our struggles with technology. Maybe an iPhone will help us get organized. ;)

11th Commandment: Do the Dance!
Tuesday I had the privilege of attending a pre-premier screening of Evan Almighty. Might I just say that the movie was awesome! The first installment of the "Almighty" series with Jim Carey had a powerful message that got lost in all the irreverent humor and oddball comedy. Not so with Evan. This movie is just as funny but the message stays true and in the forefront throughout the film. It is what Bruce Almighty should have been. Is it 100% theologically correct? I wouldn't go that far. I'm sure someone will find some issue with this movie. Many people took issue with the Passion too.
These are moral lessons I took home with me after watching this movie.
#1 God does what He does in our lives primarily because He loves us.
#2 God answers prayers (just not always how we expect Him to).
#3 God will still work in us no matter how much we fight Him
#4 If you want to "Change the World" you can START by doing Acts of Random Kindness
#5 Christians in Hollywood that persevere will and do get opportunities to share God's truth with the world (i.e. Tom Shadyac)
Don't ask me what moral lessons I got from Pirates 3 or Shrek 3. I mean most movies have happy endings and the guy gets the girl and the bad guys never win. For the most part. But, I always seem to feel dirty getting to those conclusions. It's either the language or the sex scenes or the violence. You don't have to worry about any of that with Evan Almighty.
My 4 year old son came with me to watch Evan Almighty and he loved it. Most of the people in the audience were church leaders or staff. I heard so many AMEN's during the movie I thought I was watching Tony Evans Almighty.
So anyway, here's the bottom line. Hollywood works just like politics. Only your money is the Ballot. A movie's premier weekend turnout is what tells them what works and what doesn't. If you guys spend your money on any of the summer blockbusters but don't go and see this one, you are telling Hollywood that you want more of Pirates and Spiderman and the like and less of movies like this with God-centered values. Don't go complaining about Hollywood not making good movies if you don't go see the ones they actually do put out. This movie comes out June 22nd. Go Cast your vote (and then do the dance)!

Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer
Luke 6:27-36 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
